Additional information:Promotional LP Note On the sleeve: These recordings are culled trom four albums spanning the period from 1973 to 1977. They represent the most "main- stream" trend of my workÑthe line that runs out of Roxy Music at one hand and into my collabora- tions with Bowie, Devo, David Byme, and Talking Heads at the other. This collection is there- fore by no means a cross sectionÑit is an edge of my work that others tend to regard as the center. Even in terms of my songs (which constitute only 155 of the nearly 600 minutes of music I have released) this is not a typical collection: indeed given the idiosyncratic nature of the pieces, it is hard to know how such a selection should be constituted. Chronologically, the sequence of these recordings is as follows: HERE COMES THE WARM JETSÑ1973, TAKING TIGER MOUNTAINÑ1974, ANOTHER GREEN WORLDÑ 1975, BEFORE AND AFTER SCIENCEÑ1976-77. On re-lis- tening to this material I find that rather than it having become dated, many of the stylistc innovations which initially appeared rather odd have since become the currency of what is now vaguely referred to as "new wave music". Since my interest has shifted away from this area of music, any pride I might feel in this contribution is mingled with considerable consternation. Bnan Eno New York, April 1981 | |
